Loopt Smart Yard
Loopt is a technology company focused on optimizing logistics and operations in the maritime and port industries, specifically addressing inefficiencies in container handling within retroport areas (the spaces within port terminals where containers are stored and transferred to/from trucks).
As a Staff UX Designer, I conducted user interviews, delivered design solutions, and presented to both internal teams and clients. I gathered quantitative and qualitative insights to inform design decisions and created high-fidelity screens and functional prototypes. Collaborating closely with developers, the CEO, CTO, clients, and machine learning engineers, I ensured the design was aligned with business goals and technical requirements, ultimately delivering an intuitive and user-centered final product.
In the retroport market, a major problem is the disorganization of container storage within the yard. Containers are often poorly arranged, leading to unnecessary movements, delays, and inefficiencies. This lack of optimal container stacking causes operational bottlenecks and can significantly increase costs due to wasted labor and fuel. Additionally, it impacts truck drivers, who face inefficiencies in accessing containers and experience longer waiting times, further escalating the financial costs for the entire supply chain.
The solution involves using machine learning algorithms to optimize container stacking and movement within the yard. By analyzing data on container locations, demand patterns, and truck schedules, the system can predict the most efficient way to organize containers, reducing the need for unnecessary re-handling.
This data-driven approach empowers planners to make better decisions regarding container placements, improving workflow efficiency. It also helps truck drivers by providing real-time updates and routing suggestions, leading to faster pickups and deliveries.
